Emotions, Intellect and dogs ...

In preparation for  'classes" in September, I am reading the texts, once- if not twice! - this summer.  ABI-126 Animal minds and Emotions has us reading Temple GRANDIN !
I will be curious if 'classmates' find it as fascinating  ( of some 50 people, there is one other woman, who is Brain Injured - and who lives just an hour away!).

" Normal emotions are essential for staying alive and well.   Emotion is so important that if you had to choose between having an intact emotion system in the brain and having an intact cognitive system, the right choice would be emotion.
We humans tend to think of emotions as dangerous forces that need to be strictly controlled by reason and logic.
"In the brain logic and reason are never separate from emotion.   Even nonsense syllables have an emotional charge, either positive or negative.  Nothing is neutral!"                   *pg. 198, Animals in Translation- using the mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behaviour, Temple GRANDIN and Catherine JOHNSON, 2005, Simon & "Schuster, ISBN - 978-0-15-603144-8

Brain damage can cause personality characteristics previously had -  say, being stubborn, - to become extreme - becoming downright 'pig-headed' or enjoying the impromptu becoming impulsive.
... and so is confirmed the age old physical phenomenon of 'opposites'  attracting to make a "whole"!

"Both people and animals use their emotions to predict the future and make decisions about what to do"                                                                                                pg.200,  Animals in Translation- using the mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behaviour, Temple GANDIN and Catherine JOHNSON, 2005, Simon & "Schuster, ISBN - 978-0-15-603144-8

I, Barbara,  don't care much to predict the future; just give me my dreams and I'll make through what ever the challenge!!
