The final 'nail-in-the-coffin" came today with a visit from a Public Health Insprector.
The "Sad Day" began on our 07hh45 Widdle Wander to meet Rottweiler,"Carlita" and Brown Lab, "Emmett".
With an approaching Handler/Dog team AND being without Obee's ego-boosting-friends, Carlita & Emmett, I kndly asked the other Handler/Dog team to wait until I secured Obee - eyes/head facing me; butt out towards dog. This was the position we had successfully calmed Obee, as a strange dog passed by, MANY times before!
JUST as the Team was to complete their pass-by I loosened my grip.
Next thing I knew the Golden Retriever - on "slip-chain - lunged towards Obee
With a lossened grip, my wrist was now in way of Obee's turned head and mouth.
Not thinking he had broken my skin I tightened my grip and managed to keep Obee from retaliating further!
The Retreiver was "hung" by the "slip-chain"-turned choke-chain and the Owner quickly walked away.
I remained with Obee secure and staring into my admonishing eyes!
"Why did you do this?", I pleaded with him!
Fearful of looking at my bare-wrist, I sadly started our trek home.
Alas! My white blood-soaked shirt made things look worse than they were!
On the advice of the Bandaging-Nurse, I attempted to go to the Walk-In clinic two hours after the 1-puncture-wound was treated.
With BOTH Clinics closed - on a Friday afternoon! - I waited two hours in the local hospital's "Emerg.".
Obee now has a "record" and it was filed with the assurance that it would represent formal withdrawal from Service Dog Training!
Obee's fearful aggression will take YEARS to disappear; but to have him representing Service Dogs in the interim is not "right" nor fair - to him!
I dare not tarnish the hard work and effort of Service Dogs or the World!
